SuperTechno 30

Panavision Australia has expanded its inventory of SuperTechno camera cranes.

Currently we have two SuperTechno 30s, a SuperTechno 50 and a SuperTechno 15 will be available in Australia from July.

The SuperTechno telescopes in shot allowing you to film sequences that are difficult or impossible to achieve with a fixed length crane. The SuperTechno is fast because you don’t have to build it or lay and level track. You simply roll it out of the truck and attach the remote head.

The SuperTechno 50 has been a big success on Stealth, working extensively on both location and studio set-ups. In addition, the SuperTechno 30 was rented on a daily basis and at one stage the production complimented the 50' crane with both the 30' cranes. Currently the SuperTechno 50 is working in New Zealand on The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe.

The SuperTechno 30 cranes have been working consistently on features including: Star Wars- Episode 3, House of Wax, Son of the Mask and Man Thing. Commercials for: Peugeot, Saab, Gilette, Chanel and Lipitor have taken advantage of its versatility. Music videos for Kelly Rowland and David Campbell have loved its speed. Television promos for ATN-7, TEN-10 and Foxtel have appreciated the cost savings.

Contact us to get one of these amazing camera cranes on your next production.

Panavision RDC The Panavision Remote Digital Control is a state-of-the-art remote control system. The primary function of the RDC is to digitally control focus, T-stop and zoom, hard-wired or wireless. In addition to these functions, it can be used with multiple camera platforms such as the Millennium, the Millennium XL, Panaflex, Arri 435, Arri 35-3, Panavision / Sony HDW-F900 etc. This unique controller can display either lens data information such as focus witness mark, T-stop, depth of field; or a live video assist image or a camera function screen. Connect a Panatape to the RDC and you have a complete focus assist system that will allow the assistant to capture virtually any shot. The Remote Digital Single Control gives you the flexibility to remotely control focus or T-stop with ramping. It can be used as a stand-alone control unit or in conjunction with the RDC. The RDSC allows the DOP to control the T-stop and ramping while the assistant can control focus completely wireless from each other.

Arri IVS-II Panavision Australia has taken delivery of 13 new Arri 435 IVS-II Video Assists.

The IVS-II has field regenerating electronics enabling steadier video images with more resolution. Finer colour balance can now be set because both the red and blue channels can be adjusted individually. A new “Film-like” exposure mode has been created which matches the exposure time on the video assist to the exposure time on the film so that strobe effects can be previewed. Flicker free mode can be switched off to eliminate any delay on the video image so that time critical events, such as lip sync in music videos, can be judged. Flicker free operation has been extended to one frame per second. You can now save and recall up to 6 different settings files to allow quicker and easier set-up changes.

The rental rate for the new 435 IVS-II remains the same as for the original integrated video assist.

P+S Technik Mini-35 Converter ASC Rentals has once again expanded its inventory with the introduction of the P+S Technik MINI 35 Digital Image Converter for the Canon XL1s. The unit allows the use of PL mounted 35mm film lenses on the DV camera.

How does it work?
The image from the lens is projected to a rotating ground glass which is then filmed by the camera. Depth of field, focus measurement and angle of view remains exactly the same as on a standard 35mm film camera. Any PL mounted 35mm format film lens and many film style accessories such as follow focus units and matte boxes from the Panavision rental fleet are available for use with the P+S Converter from ASC Rentals. A package price is now available to suit low budget commercials, documentaries or short films. If you would like more information, please contact Nic Godoy on 9901 4455.

Filmed in Panavision

2004 marks the 50th anniversary for Panavision Inc.

From humble beginnings designing and manufacturing a better anamorphic projection lens in 1954, Panavision has evolved into a global operation servicing many aspects of the film and television industry. Some of Panavision’s proud accomplishments over the last 50 years have included: the introduction of the Panaflex in 1972, the release of the Primo lens series in 1990, the announcement of the Millennium camera system in 1998, the development of the Panavised HDW-F900 camera and Primo Digital lens range in 2000 and the unveiling of the 300x HD lens just last month.

Proof of our success at producing equipment of the very highest quality is the 23 Scientific and Technical Achievement Awards and 3 Oscars awarded by The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences and the 3 Emmies from The Academy of Television Arts and Sciences.

Looking to the future, Panavision is continuing the development of innovative imaging solutions, but is diversifying into many other areas of production and post production. We look forward to providing the level of service and support that only a truly global company can provide.

Does the focal length of a 35mm format lens double when you use it on a 16mm camera?

No. A 35mm format lens behaves identically to a 16mm format lens of the same focal length when used on a 16mm camera.

It is the shooting format, combined with the focal length of the lens, which defines the angle of view, not just the lens.

As the format gets bigger so does the angle of view (up to the maximum coverage given by the lens).
