Introduction
Panavision proudly announces development of a high performance lens system with an unprecedented 300:1 zoom ratio for digital high definition broadcast television, surveillance and other applications—the 300x.
Background
For a half century the Panavision name has been synonymous with high precision spherical and anamorphic optics for the motion picture industry, including projection, printer, camera and viewfinder lens systems. Recently, following 20 years of continuous Primo® lens series developments, and having garnered eight scientific and technical Academy® and Emmy® awards, Panavision decided to apply its Primo® cine optics expertise to other markets. By combining an innovative zoom design (patent pending) with Panavision Primo Zoom® lens technology, a new standard for optical systems has been created. The first offering comes in the form of a revolutionary 300 times zoom ratio lens specifically designed for use with digital imaging cameras.
Description
In addition to the astounding 300 times zoom ratio, this versatile lens provides many value-added performance features previously unavailable. These include: continuous zooming, without the use of image degrading drop-in extenders, from long focal length (2100mm—0.3 degree field of view) to short focal length (7mm—76.3 degree full field of view); with continuous focusing through zoom; instantaneous optical breathing control at short focal lengths; low distortion over virtually all of the zoom and focus ranges. The 300x lens provides high image quality in a wide variety of shooting scenarios by maximized contrast at the optimal spatial frequencies (MTF) to suit detector characteristics—in particular, at high definition resolution. Very low veiling glare and ghosting attributes, exhibited by established Primo® cine lens technology, are also incorporated. Other features include boresight stability through zoom, and an active, closed loop internal optical stabilization system to reduce vibration-induced image shake.
